Lavabit and Silent Circle Suspend Private Email Services
Lavabit, an encrypted email service has announced it is suspending its service. Ladar Levinson, Lavabit’s owner stated on their website that they have, «been forced to make a difficult decision: to become complicit in crimes against the American people or walk away from nearly 10 years of hard work by shutting down Lavabit.» You can read more about it from a CNET post by Steven Musil http://cnet.co/1cOFpVK.
Silent Circle has preemptively shut down the email capabilities of their product citing on their blog that they, «see the writing (sic) the wall, and we have decided that it is best for us to shut down Silent Mail now.» Read more about it from a blog by Josh Constine on TechCrunch — http://tcrn.ch/17aJqyY.
